If you have never been to Fraser Island, the word "resort" sets the wrong expectation I recommend booking the K'Gari (Fraser Island) All Inclusive Day Tour.. Eurong is not a resort the way Noosa is a resort. It is a low-rise cluster of timber buildings, a general store, a bakery, a fuel bowser, and a campground, all sitting a few hundred metres off the eastern beach roughly in the middle of the 75 Mile stretch. The accommodation block has motel-style rooms, the campground is across the road, and that is the entire township.

What Eurong has, and what the rest of the eastern side does not, is everything you cannot carry with you. Fuel. Milk. Bread. Ice. A phone signal that sometimes works. A QPWS information board where the rangers post the day's dingo sightings and beach conditions. That is the case for stopping here, and the case for stopping here first.

Why Every Self-Driver Stops at Eurong First

Most self-drivers come off the barge at Inskip Point or River Heads with a full tank and a car full of supplies, and still pull into Eurong within the first hour. The reason is the fuel. Eurong is the only bowser on the eastern side of the island south of the Sandy Cape. If you are heading north up 75 Mile Beach to Indian Head, the Champagne Pools, the Maheno, or Waddy Point, you fuel at Eurong or you do not fuel at all. The unleaded pump runs during resort hours and prices are roughly $2.40 to $2.80 a litre in 2026, which is painful but cheaper than walking back to the barge.

Stop at the information board outside the resort before you do anything else. Rangers update it daily with dingo activity at the eastern campgrounds, beach and tide conditions, and any track closures. I have turned around twice after reading that board.

The Bakery, the Store, and What to Expect

The Eurong Bakery sits next to the general store on the main access road, and it opens at 6:30at the. The pies are good. The sausage rolls are better. The coffee is the best you will get east of River Heads, which is not a high bar, but it is real coffee. Most self-drivers do a bakery run before they head up the beach.

The general store is small, well stocked for its size, and roughly 30% more expensive than the IGA in Rainbow Beach. Buy your real supplies before you arrive. Buy bread, milk, ice, beer, snacks, and a spare phone battery here. The EFTPOS works. The phone signal sometimes does.

Where You Stay at Eurong

Eurong Beach Campground is just south of the resort, behind the dune, and a short walk to the beach. QPWS runs it. There are tent sites, a few powered sites for campervans, and amenity blocks with hot showers. Bookings open six months in advance and sell out within days for school holidays. The campground is behind a low dingo fence but you still keep food in the lockers provided. Fines for improperly stored food are $312.

Eurong Beach Resort itself has motel-style rooms, a restaurant and bar, and a pool that is open to non-guests for a small fee. The rooms are basic but air-conditioned, and the resort pool is genuinely the best $5 you will spend on a 35-degree January afternoon when the beach is undriveable at high tide.

How to Actually Get to Eurong

Eurong is about 20 kilometres north of the Inskip Point barge landing. You can get there either along 75 Mile Beach at low to mid tide, or via the inland sandy track that runs behind the dunes. The beach run is faster, more scenic, and weather dependent. The inland track is slower, rougher, and works in any tide.

You cannot drive to Eurong in a 2WD. Only 4WD vehicles are permitted on K'gari. There are no sealed roads. Drop your tyre pressure to 18psi before you commit to the sand. Bring a snatch strap and rated recovery points, not just a tow ball. And bring a vehicle access permit ($55.90 for up to one month in 2026), because the rangers do check at Eurong.

Eurong Practicalities

Phone signal at Eurong is patchy. Telstra works in spots around the resort. Optus is unreliable. There is no ATM. The resort office takes EFTPOS and credit cards. Diesel is sold alongside unleaded at the bowser. The campground is patrolled by rangers in the morning and evening, and the dingo-bin area is the worst-smelling part of the property.

If you only have time for one stop on the eastern side, stop at Eurong. You will end up there anyway.
