About Fraser Coast Adventures
Honest guide to Fraser Island (K'gari) and Hervey Bay.
Who we are
Fraser Coast Adventures is an independent travel information site focused on two things: Fraser Island's 4WD tag-along touring culture and Hervey Bay's humpback whale watching encounters. We research, compare, and write about the operators and experiences that make this part of Queensland worth visiting.
We started because we kept meeting travellers who had either a confusing experience booking a Fraser Island tour or came away not knowing what they actually paid for. We wanted to fix that.
How we research
We look at operator reviews from multiple sources — not just the aggregate star rating but the actual content of what past visitors said. We check whether operators have current permits for Fraser Island access (which changes), read their cancellation and safety policies, and compare what's actually included in the listed price versus what costs extra on the day.
We update our content when operators change their offerings, pricing, or service standards. Nothing on this site is written once and left to decay.
How we make money
We participate in the Viator affiliate program. When you click one of our links and book a tour on Viator, we receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how we keep the site running.
We only link to operators we'd comfortably send a friend toward. Affiliate relationship or not — if an operator's standards dropped, we'd remove them from the site. Our editorial decisions are independent.
Our relationship with Fraser Island (K'gari)
Fraser Island — known as K'gari to its Traditional Custodians, the Butchulla people — is a place with deep cultural significance. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of K'gari and the Butchulla people, and pay our respects to Elders past and present.
We encourage every visitor to learn about the island's Indigenous history and the ongoing connection of the Butchulla people to Country. This isn't just tokenism — understanding who has cared for this land for thousands of years changes how you experience it.
